Essex Mediation (www.essexmediation.co.uk) is a registered charity that provides mediation services for families going through periods of conflict. They arrange mediations between parents and children, divorcing couples and for various other relationships and situations. They aim to help people deal with the practical and emotional impact of conflict on the individual and the family and to work towards resolutions for the good of all parties.

The charity approached LawWorks in 2009 for assistance with merging with another organisation. This involved help with effecting a TUPE transfer of their employees, a review of the lease of the premises held by the other organisation to ensure it was suitable for them, and help with the actual merger itself.

As the assistance needed covered several legal areas, the charity was placed with two of LawWorks’ member law firms for assistance. They commented that: ‘the service was exceptional throughout, and the advice received was invaluable’ and added that they would not have been able to proceed with the merger without the help they received.

Paul D’Auria Cancer Support Centre (www.pauldauriacentre.org.uk) is a registered charity that provides information, support and complementary therapies to anyone affected by cancer, including their families and carers. They operate from Battersea in London, but also provide a home visiting service for people unable to visit the Centre.

The charity approached LawWorks in 2009 for assistance with a review of the Service Level Agreement they had been given by their funder. They were placed with a LawWorks member, and commented that the firm had provided ‘extremely thorough and helpful feedback, received in a timely and professional manner’, and described LawWorks as a ‘brilliant and much needed service.’

Eastleigh Advocacy Project (www.hampshireadvocacy.org.uk) is a registered charity based in Hampshire that runs a self advocacy project for people with learning disabilities. They run self advocacy groups and teach people with learning disabilities how to make decisions and to become as independent as possible. They support new self advocacy groups and teach disability awareness to various organisations. The project was originally set up as an innovative self-advocacy project which had a Management Committee made up solely of people with learning disabilities.

The charity came to LawWorks in 2009 for advice and support regarding disciplinary and possible dismissal issues with an employee. They commented that their volunteer solicitor was ‘absolutely outstanding in both her expertise and time dedicated to our support. The communication with all people involved in LawWorks process was exemplary from start to finish… Without the vital support received through LawWorks - in particular from our solicitor - a very sensitive and highly charged employment issue would simply not have been dealt with effectively.’
