NHS Continuing Healthcare Scheme - Cardiff Law School
Highly Commended - Best Contribution by a Team of Students
“They are dedicated, passionate and fully committed to working in an area of law…that is extremely complex and novel.”
The scheme addresses the issue of NHS Continuing Healthcare funding. The general pro bono clinic was launched in 2005, but the group quickly decided to specialise in this niche area of law which is not covered by legal aid. The group has worked with a number of local groups to draw on their expertise and experience, including Hugh James solicitors, Age Concern UK and the Alzheimer’s Society.
The students involved must attend an intensive training programme and are each allocated a specific role – from Manager to Files Officer. The project aims to relieve the stress and anxiety associated with the application for funding.
