Please note that we are unable to accept requests for help from certain types of organisations, namely:

• residents’ associations
• animal welfare organisations
• private leisure and sports clubs
• professional or trade associations
• organisations whose primary object or purpose is the promotion of religion
• international organisations whose primary focus is on benefiting communities overseas (unless they also benefit communities in the UK).
• organisations whose primary object, purpose or activity is campaigning or lobbying.

Please note that we cannot provide assistance to organisations with any element of internal dispute (within the organisation) related to their legal issue.

If your application is approved by LawWorks for Community Groups, we will do our best to secure your organisation the assistance of a legal advisor able to assist on a pro bono basis i.e. with no charge for solicitors' fees. The legal advisor may ask you for certain documents (e.g. to prove your identity) before they are able to assist. You should note that, in some cases, we are not able to find a volunteer advisor for you. LawWorks for Community Groups reserves the right to reject any application.

We are only able to assist those organisations who can least afford legal fees. We will consider your organisation's annual income and other items of financial information (eg level of unrestricted income; funding ring fenced for capital projects) in deciding whether to approve your application. If your organisation has income of more than £500,000, please contact the LawWorks for Community Groups project staff BEFORE submitting your application; we will be happy to discuss your case.
