Toynbee Hall Legal Advice Centre


Established in 1898 and running continuously ever since, Toynbee Hall’s Free Legal Advice Centre, (known originally as the “Poor Man’s Lawyer”) was almost certainly the first, and is unquestionably the oldest surviving Free Legal Advice Centre in the world. Throughout its history it has advised and represented the neediest people in Tower Hamlets which remains one of the most socially and financially deprived boroughs in the country.
