LawWorks Clinics Network – Enterprise clinics

The number of innovation and business focused pro bono clinics joining the LawWorks Clinics Network is on the increase. One of the first to join was the Enterprise Clinic, part of the BPP Law Schools free legal advice centre.

The Enterprise Clinic provides free commercial legal advice to start-ups and small enterprises, with clients ranging from web-developers, franchise holders, to dance troupes and even a micro-pig farmer! Its diverse client-base has sought advice on issues from registering a limited company, reviewing standard terms and conditions as well as disputes with suppliers, consumers or commercial landlords.

The clinic is partnering with The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network to offer advice and training to its participants who wish to realise their dreams of owning their own business.

In just 12 months, the clinic received 192 enquiries, helped 58 small businesses and contributing over 920 hours of students’ time back to the community.

Both client and student feedback so far has been very positive, with one of its first cohort of advisers commenting, “The experience was brilliant! I felt like I have learnt so much through the interview and letter-drafting, as I was able to apply my legal knowledge onto a real-life scenario!”

Likewise, clients have appreciated the services received, with one client saying, “I was impressed with the service.  It is an outstanding service to offer at no cost. I would like to thank you for your assistance and advice – which I am now acting on.  I am about to acquire IP rights for my company.”
