Now in its 22nd year events and activities in Pro Bono Week offer an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the voluntary contributions made by lawyers across the whole of the UK in giving free legal help to those in need. The events and activities organised also aim to encourage more legal professionals to undertake pro bono work.
LawWorks will be hosting and supporting events across the country. The week-long celebration of pro bono begins on Monday evening with a hybrid launch event at Herbert Smith Freehills in London, where attendess will be joined by the Attorney General, the Rt Hon. Victoria Prentis KC MP, Lady Rose, Justice of the UK Supreme Court, and features a panel on transforming lives through pro bono, followed by a reception and networking. On Tuesday morning, LawWorks is hosting a roundtable with the Law Society and chaired by Law Society President Nick Emmerson, at Herbert Smith Freehills to discuss the Major Incidents Response Plan. We will be celebrating with the Free Representation Unit at their 50th anniversary on Wednesday. Attending the Birmingham Law Society Pro Bono Committee lunchtime event at Gowling WLG in Birmingham on Thursday. Later in the day LawWorks will be at the Supreme Court to celebrate the launch of the new Pro Bono Connect Pro Bono Expert Support Scheme, and heading to the North-East Pro Bono Summit in Newcastle.
