International pro bono – PILnet and beyond

Whilst LawWorks are an England and Wales charity with a clear focus on domestic pro bono and legal issues, where it is appropriate we share our learning and experience with other jurisdictions by participating in relevant international fora.

At last November’s PILnet Forum in Berlin we facilitated a workshop on developing a policy voice for pro bono, specifically looking at issues of collective redress, the human rights accountability of business, and the role of strategic litigation in policy change. The varied panel included Ingrid Gubbay, Head of environmental law and human rights litigation at Hausfeld, Yolande Meyvis  based at Denton’s Brussels Office, Peter Krominga, Director of the German Corporate Citizenship and CSR Network, and a joint contribution from Filip Gregor (FrankBold) and Christopher Patz (European Coalition for Corporate Justice).

In October 2018 our Deputy Chief Executive, Rebecca Wilkinson, took part in a panel discussion at the ‘European Pro Bono and Skills-Based Volunteering Summit’ in Madrid on innovating and scaling pro bono.

In June PILnet will be hosting in London a European Pro Bono event on innovation, and a one day summit on ‘Access to Justice and Technology’.
