Originally developed by Justice Connect in Australia, their award-winning portal has been adapted for use in the UK and other international jurisdictions.
LawWorks uses the Portal for our own pro bono projects and programmes. November 2022 our Not-for-Profits programme, which connects smaller charities with free legal advice, began using the Portal to communicate and broker our casework and honorary counsel opportunities. For further information contact our Not-for-Profits programme team.
When registering on the Portal participating law firms and in-house legal teams can identify the areas of law and types of pro bono they are interested in, they can then access and review the pro opportunities available and choose those they are interested in.
We are working with a range of stakeholders to promote awareness of the Portal and to maximise its reach and full potential. This includes an advisory group with representatives of law firms, in-house legal teams, Justice Connect and the law centre and advice community.
Initially operating in England and Wales, LawWorks is ambitious for the Portal and its potential to become a national ‘one stop shop’ for solicitors and others seeking legal pro bono and other volunteer opportunities. We hope to make the Portal available to law centres, advice agencies and others to post their pro bono opportunities and connect with law firms and in-house legal teams. Alternatively, the pro bono opportunities can be sent to LawWorks to be added to the Portal.
